My plan was to travel overland thru Thailand into Cambodia and have my passport stamped at the border between the two countries. Seems like tensions have escalated since I last saw something about this…

Thailand-Cambodia agree to joint border patrols
PREAH VIHEAR, Cambodia (AP) — The Cambodian and Thai militaries agreed Thursday to hold joint patrols at a disputed border area where a gun battle between the two sides left two soldiers dead, a Thai army spokesman said.
Just so we are clear, these are words you don’t want to hear when leaving on a trip
militaries
disputed border
gun battle
dead
Truth be told I have not heard any tourists being affected by this…yet. Just have to keep my ears perked up.

I got an e-Visa over the Internet, printed two copies out, and when we flew into Siem Reap from Singapore I was one of the last ones off the plane but one of the first ones through immigration. The officer looked at my passport and said, delightedly, “E-visa!” He showed me my picture on his terminal (the same picture I uploaded for my visa). Very joined up for a poor country–I was most impressed and made a point of congratulating Cambodia (through him).
