Walking the Street of Paris

by brian on January 18, 2009

My first full day in Paris I spent on the Free Tour of Paris @ http://neweuropetours.eu. As soon as I saw free I got excited but the axiom you get what you pay for was ringing in my ears.

Not in this case.

Our tour guide was Phillip, an New Zealand ex-pat now living in Paris. We actually met at the hostel I’m staying at with about 10 others taking the tour. Then we traveled via subway, (Parisians called it the Metro) to where the total on the tour swelled to 50 people.

We saw off in the distance or went directly to a bunch of locations including

The Louvre Museum
The Eiffel Tower
Notre Dame
Arc de Triomphe
Tuileries Gardens
Much, more more.

The tour was about 4 hours including lunch so it wasn’t time to go in and visit every place. You could spend a week in The Louvre alone and not see everything. But the tour does give you an idea of what you want to spend more time on and gives you a feel of where everything is in Paris.

Overall a great value. Phillip was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, two things you want from any tour guide.

After the tour, Phillip handed out more instructions about places to go and took tips, since this was a free tour. I’m sure he did extremely well if the other people were as happy as me.

In fact they have tours in London and other cities so when I go back to London I’m going to do this tour. Why not, it’s free!

Hey, if you are going to kicked in the head, it might as well be someone/ something worthy.
