Micro Cars in Rome and We Begin the Vatican Tour

Before we get into the Vatican, one thing I love about Europe are the cars. Not the behemoths we in America drive. But the little, fuel efficient cars that look like you could pick up one with one hand and toss down the street, Incredible Hulk style…

I looked at this one and if I laid down next to it lengthwise, I would be longer than it.

Any car that can fit between two cars like this you have to give props to

AWWWW! Isn’t it cute?!

They look great and get great fuel mileage, but heaven help you if you get into an accident. There is no leeway in these cars. You better be a good driver and hope everyone around you is one too. The two major brands seems to be Citroen and Smart.

But I digresss…unto the Vatican…yesterday I got held up by the Italian Postal Service. I have more faith in Cambodia and Ethiopia at this point. Those of you who were not mailed from the Vatican, I pray for your postcards. ‘Italia Postile’ did nothing to give me a sense of confidence.

The Vatican Post Office, according to loyal reader Kim, is much better…

Got up early and got back to St. Peter’s Square by 9:45am.

Those shots of St. Peter’s Square where it looks incredibly huge…the pictures don’t lie. It is huge!

Here is the line in front of me to get into St. Peter’s

Here is the line behind me – from the same spot

But the line moves quickly and within 15 minutes I moved through the security metal detectors.

But before you get in, make sure you are dressed properly

Did you know the Smart cars are actually produced by Mercedes-Benz?

Especially the earliest Smart had a tendency to flip over, though the cage structure and the front crumple zone actually provides very good protection from frontal impact.

For safety of Smart cars, check this: http://www.euroncap.com/tests/smart_city_coupe_2000/29.aspx

@Wytze
I thought I did see an Benz nameplate or emblem. I thought I was seeing things!

I’m pretty certain the US has Smarte Cars now (or some variety of them). I have a picture!
