Spirit Airlines CEO Ben Baldanza talks in this video about why his company made the move to charge for carry-ons stored in the overhead bins.
I think Spirit felt the need to respond after catching so much heat for being the first to charge for carry-ons.
And in this second video, someone writes what Baldanza and Spirit are really thinking when he did this video.
In the latest news, New York Senator Chuck Schumer has gotten a commitment from 5 major airlines that they will not charge for carry-ons.
I know, shocking isn’t it? How did he manage to do that????
By proposing to TAX carry-on revenue as well as tax all the extra fees airlines tack on to your super cheap initial fare.
Currently airlines DO NOT have to pay taxes on any additional fees they charge the traveling public.
So that fee for checked luggage or the fee for getting an assigned seat? All pure revenue for the airlines that they don’t have to share with Uncle Sam.
To keep that cash cow going, the other airlines pledged not to introduce carry-on fees.
We’ll see how long that lasts.
