In my last post I set the stage for my first day in Bangkok.

So I’m on the boat. I paid 1500 baht ($43US) for a boat to take me up and down the river. The kicker – I was the only one in the boat, there was no tour guide and it made only one stop. Wow!

As you’re floating up the river, women in other boats come by and sells you snacks, drinks, and gifts. Kay, if you’re reading this you got something off a river in Thailand. Don’t you feel special?

She has the full compliment of stuff to sell to sucke…ummm…I mean tourists like me.

First stop for the boat was a Snake and Animal farm along the river. The snake show was up close and personal. I was the only brave…or foolish one to sit in the front row. What a bunch of sissies. What can snakes do besides bite you, delivering a deadly dose of venom that will kill within minutes. I mean c’mon really!

Instantly recognized by the hood. It’s the king cobra making an appearance.

It take 4 guys to hold this massive python to show its length.

You really could not get great shots of the animals, but I managed one of this humongous alligator. No name for the gator, but reportedly eats everything.

After the day’s boat trip, my roommates and I head to a festival called Loy Kratong or “Festival of Light”. It is celebrated on the first full moon of the twelfth lunar month. For Thailand, that would be November.

Lights floating on the water are amazingly wonderful to see.

Somebody tell this kid to get out of this water. That is not the lighting, the color of this water and all the water I have seen around Bangkok can only described as ‘chocolate brown’.

I can’t imagine this is healthy for swimming, but here he is and others not pictured.
