Chicago’s Loss: Is Passport Control to Blame?

While people blame everything from President Obama’s visit to the United States Olympic Committee’s in-fighting to Brazil impassioned plea, one thing mentioned was the “harrowing experience” it is to enter the United States, as quoted in the article.

This would not surprise me. It has been harder and harder for potential visitors to the United States to get visas. When they get here they are subjected to questioning that can border on interrogation.

I don’t think that people would blame the US for stringent rules. But when those rules hinder innocent people from visiting the US, or even passing through the US to get to another country, that is a a big problem.

By the way, this is Rio’s video entry to the International Olympic Committee. My Brazil visa expires next year. I will be renewing, no doubt. O ver lá!

Stories and links to blogs of some of the people who have taken JetBlue up on the “all you can jet” plans. The deal is suppose to end this Thursday, so check these blogs and see what they’ve been up to.

The ultimate travel adventure, but you need $29500!

For the person who has had every type of adventure trip, the ultimate in travel. The picture of the view you get when you take this trip is awe-inspring. But your wallet needs to be thick…

Natural disaster preparedness for the overseas adventure traveler

With the recent earthquakes and subsequent tsunamis in the Pacific, locals and travelers need to be prepared for anything the region they are in can dish out. Two things I have mentioned before, registering with your embassy and having good travel insurance are mentioned in this article, along with some other good suggestions.

Not So Dangerous Destinations

North Korea. Bosnia. Colombia. Haiti. Not as dangerous as you thought. Suprising Ethiopia was on the list. I never thought of it as dangerous, I thought more of poverty than danger. The Ethiopians are wonderful people. Crime is something that never crossed my mind while I was there.

Europe dominates list of top pickpocket traps

I have been to 5 out of 10 places on the list and to be honest I didn’t know they were pickpocket havens. When you take the precautions, you never worry about it. My New York upbringing probably prepared me more than anything else.

A Foreigner’s Lesson on “Dealing” With Foreigners

I know I have more empathy for travelers in New York after being outside the United States. That feeling of being lost, not knowing where to go or do, once you feel that and get home, you will take the lost tourist in your town under your wing and take care of them. Do unto others as you would have them do to you.

The ‘Worst Hotel In The World’ Has The Best Advertising Campaign

Some of the pictures in this ad are laugh out loud funny. This is what people think happens when they go to a hostel. You definitely don’t have to go to these extremes to get decent accommodations at low prices.

5 insider tips for knowing your resort is in foreclosure

One result of the global real estate meltdown is the amount of resort and hotel properties that are going into foreclosure. Imagine waking up one morning in your hotel bed and finding all the staff is gone and the doors locked. That would put a damper on your trip, to put it mildly.
